HOME CARE AND EDUCATION FOR THE ORPHANS.


Background: We are an institution under House of Mercy ministries charged with the duty to study the plight of the children vulnerable to HIV/AIDS and to mitigate the impact and reduce the user communities vulnerable to HIV/AIDS through Home Care and Education for Orphans.

Overall Objective:
The Overall objective of Home Care and Education for Orphans as a project is to mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS and reduce the community's vulnerability through the Care and Education for children whose families have been grossly affected by the scourge.

Specific Objectives:
1. Mobilize and administer relevant resources for the domestic care of the beneficiary children;
· Purchase and distribute nutritional supplements.
· Purchase and distribute clothes and other necessities.
· Purchase and distribute seeds and farm inputs for self help.
· Organize awareness seminars for sustainability.
· Organize counseling programs for spiritual, moral and social behavioral.
2. Mobilize and channel relevant resources for the changes, education of children grossly affected by the HIV/AIDS scourge.
Pay for Tuition, meals at school, provide scholastic materials, uniforms, shoes, and any other school requirements and outing beneficial for their learning.
3. Mobilize and administer or ensure that the beneficiaries participate fully in HIV/AIDS educational programs, primary health care, and any other and all other compulsory activities that lead to the mitigation of HIV/AIDS.

Current number of Orphans on roll: 36 (Thirty six)
Current status: received a grant of Ug. Shs. 4,750,000 (USD $2,500) for community initiative to cover school fees, uniforms, a meal at school, shoes, note books, pens and pencils for the year 2004.

Challenges:
i) The project still needs an equivalent of $2000 to cater for 36 blankets each at $10 = $360, 36 mattresses each at $20 = $720, 36 pairs of bed sheets each at $10 = $360, home care clothes each at $5 and at $10 = $360. Nutritional supplements eg. Eggs, soya, porridge $200 = Total $2000. Please consider additional $200 for administrative costs, beddings and some a cute cases, shelter and medicine.
ii) The project needs USD $ 3000 for these children for the 2006.

Prayer requests:
o Contributions in kind and in cash to meet the above needs.
o Pen pals for these children.
o Gifts for the children eg. Toys, birthday gifts and words of encouragement.
o Prayer for wisdom and comfort so that the children may concentrate on studies and learn to acknowledge God's goodness.
o Pray that God may touch someone from outside Uganda to visit these children as a motivation.
o Pray that the project may have a volunteer or acquire funds to pay for a full time worker to minister to these children on a regular basis after school hours or weekends.
